Well, Chester made it through his first round of TPLO surgery, for a fully torn cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right leg. While completing the surgery, the surgeon also discovered a torn meniscus. Both were replaced with a metal plate and 6 metal screws! It's amazing what the medical field can do for pets!
Chester had surgery on Monday morning, and came home yesterday. It's been a little rough, I'm not going to lie. Trying to keep him and Diesel both comfortable, and still giving equal attention to each of them, has been a challenge. Thank goodness for mild pet sedatives. Chester's eating, drinking and going to the bathroom like a champ, so I've been super happy with all of that.
The sleeping routine was a struggle last night- he couldn't get comfortable with his cone on, so finally around 2:30, I took it off and slept beside him. It was the only way he could rest and sleep. Every part of my body aches today, but I know this is just for a short time!
We're so thankful to have Chester home and recovering. It's going to be slow and steady, but we'll get there one day at a time. And then- it will be time to do it all over again, on the left leg.
